Revive Yourself


So for whatever reason, I have apparently been on a hiatus in various aspects of my life – insert blog, yoga, gym, guitar, etc. You know how it goes – you start getting too busy with work, or travel, or birthday parties, engagement parties, etc. and poof! Before you know it – you’ve managed to stop doing things that you love, things that challenge you, or things you never realized made you really feel 100% like yourself. Until they’re gone.

So hello. It’s me. And I’m back.

I went to yoga last night for the first time in like 2 months (insert horrific scream) and couldn’t believe that I actually let myself miss that 1 hour of pure and unadulterated solitude for this long! I managed to forget how soothing it was, and how great I would feel after. I forgot how refreshing it was to let your mind and body relax like that, and to only focus on 1 thing, and on 1 move, at a time – rather than what’s for dinner, what the plans are, how much laundry there is to do, my checklist of items at work, blah blah blah.

For 1 hour you are focusing on one thing – yourself.

Your mind, your body and your soul. That’s it.

Now here’s the thing. It wasn’t also until last night I realized that if you really don’t want to do something that’s good for you, and are always trying to “get yourself to like it” – then it’s just not for you. I have had a gym membership for umpteen years, and as the years go by I am going less and less. Guess what – I am not a gym person! And that is ok. I would prefer to do other things to keep my life and body in balance. For soooo long I would literally force myself to go to the gym, dread going to the gym, and just be in an all around bad mood when getting invites to go to the gym.

There, I said it. I hate the gym! (man that feels good)

But I sure do love me some yoga, or some bike rides, or a nice walk on the water.

You might love the gym. The weights, the treadmills, the classes – and you might really hate yoga. It’s hot, it’s smelly, it’s patient and slow and enduring. You may hate all of those things. You might hate working out in general. And that’s ok too.

My point is this – whatever your thing is. Do it.

And try to really keep up with it. I failed to realize that me feeling stressed, wound up, cranky, and tired – were all a result of me doing nothing. Nothing but watching tv, being lazy, working, working and working. Ew. Ever feel like you’re in a rut? You prolly need to get back to something that gives you harmony.

Doing whatever makes you happy will create that balance inside of you. Cooking, cleaning, scrapbooking, yoga, bike riding, spin class, painting. We all have different things that juice our soul. And said things allow each of us a sense of connectedness with ourselves, one another and even the universe.

So get back to what you’ve been missing. And get back to yourself.

If you don’t – you might be a huge cranky beotch like I was.

  1. You make me smile from ear to ear. What a great reminder. I’m going to get back to drinking on a nightly basis 😉 j/k. I think I see a little Zumba coming back into my life very soon thanks too you. Nothing gets me going like a little dancing. Wish we were closer so we could dance together! Love you!
